Take part in our naming competition for Bristol’s newest bridge!
While building works are taking place to reinstate the workshops lost in the 2023 fire, Underfall Yard and Bristol Maritime have worked together to install a temporary floating walkway for visitors to continue their loop of our famous Floating Harbour by connecting the Victorian-era docks maintenance workshops to the celebrated Underfall Cafe.
To mark the occasion of inviting the public back to walk through the boatyard in full, we are running a contest to give the walkway a name. This name will be used for the duration of the walkway’s time at Underfall Yard, which is estimated to be for over a year. We may even get it on a plaque, which makes it even more official!
And the winner is…
We had over 250 entries of bridge names, which we whittled down to eight for our public vote. And after 700+ votes, we had a clear winner!
Introducing… The Girdlestone Bridge!
Named after the City Docks Engineer who was responsible for the terracotta buildings and workshop machinery you can still see on site today! It’s great to be able to honour him in this way.
Thank you to everyone who voted, and we hope to see you crossing The Girdlestone Bridge on your next visit
