A stunning reconstruction of John Cabot’s caravel, which crossed the Atlantic in 1497. Although the original ship is now lost, this replica was created for the 500th anniversary of her voyage, sailing to Newfoundland and back. There are regular trips available on the Matthew in the summer months, along the harbour and also down Avon Gorge.
We expect the Matthew to be on the slipway at Underfall Yard from 18th March for three days.
Please note: Bookings for the slipway may vary, meaning that exact timings cannot be guaranteed for arrival and departure. When the slipway is in active use, the walkway will be closed to pedestrians. Visitors are welcome to view the slipway in action from Underfall Cafe’s outdoor seating area.
The oldest Bristol-built ship still afloat, the Mayflower is also said to boast the title of oldest surviving tug in the world! She is now preserved by M Shed, and you can catch a ride along the harbour in the summer months.
We expect the Mayflower to be on the slipway at Underfall Yard from 15th April for two weeks.
